Genre Music Video Analysis 1

Muse - Uprising

Sound

The sound for this music video is quite conventional for this genre of music video. With rock videos its usually all bout the song or is a mix of song and narrative. This one is all about the song but has a silent sort of narrative playing in the back. There sound is Diegetic as it is the band who is playing it in the scenes shown below.

Cinematography

The cinematography for this video is good as it isn't too erratic for people to understand what is going on but the tracking movements in the video are quite slow so it matches the pace of the song making the video feel quite soft and calm. This is a bit juxtaposed as the music is rock genre and you would expect it to be a bit more lively with the music that is playing. The shots are quite conventional since there are wide and close shots of the band and the band members. This is all shown in the tube chop. --->

Mise-En-Scene

The mise-en-scene for the video is very dark, there is a use of low key lighting and dark costumes used which give the video quite a dark and eerie feel about it. This is done to reflect the quite morbid feel of the song how it is quite slow at first and notes are dragged out combined with the slow tracking movements gives off a very dark and eerie feel to the music video. You can see this in the tube chop below.

Editing

The editing for the piece is quite conventional since it follows the beat of the song and is quite slow at the start of the song when the song is quite slow. Then it speeds up along with the song but the camera movements do not speed up. This is good as it keeps the audience entranced in the video as they can follow it as they follow the song easily. You can clearly see this in the lengthy tube chop below.
