Analysis of a rock video 2

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

Sound

The sound for the music video is the song Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand. There is no Non-Diegetic sound in the video as the video consists of the band playing the song so the sound is diegetic through the video. This makes the video seem based purely on the song and the images that accompany are directly related to the song.

Editing

The editing for the music video is fast paced to match the tempo of the song and is cut on beat to the song, especially at a particular point of the song you can see that the music video is cut right on beat and goes through shots that directly relate to the beat like a foot tapping on the floor on beat to the song. This makes the song and the video feel very energetic which makes the audience enjoy the video regardless of the footage in the video.

Cinematography

There are a lot of camera movements used in the music video like tracking towards the band members as they play the song and there are also a lot of static shots that have no movements and are mainly close ups of imagery of band members playing their respective instruments or the singer. These give a feel to the music video that it is quite an energetic song and that the video wants people to move and dance to the song by invoking the movement through the tracking shots. The close ups are also used to show who the band members are clearly to the audience. You can see this in the Tube Chop below.

Mise-En-Scene

The mise-en-scene for this music video is very strange as everything seems to be in the format of flat 2D paper clippings some having a blotchy type of comic book effect over them and sometimes their faces mixed with another picture of an object and at one point their bodies being replaced completely with robotic and skeleton looking bodies. None of the imagery seen in the video relates to the song lyrics in any way making it seem very separated from the imagery. You can see these in the screen captures below.
