CD Cover/Advert practice edit

Here is an edit I made from one of the photo shoot pictures we did on 20/12/13.

I decided to make many different edits of the same picture and them compile them into one. I also added the name of the band in the slides and spaced out the letters accordingly to make it look fitting. There are some improvements I can make to this, one of them is that i can make the slides a lot smaller so I could have more effects and the picture would look much more balanced and even, we also wouldn't have half of Andrews nose missing on the purple looking slide under the word 'MONKEYS'.

Band Setting up and having a practice

Here are a few images of when we were filming on Thursday 12th December. This was where we took our peer feedback and started shooting band shots in as many different ways possible. We did individual shots of Andrew as well as Lee (Guitarist) as well as Kieran (Drummer) and then we had whole band shots together.

We did quite a few shots of Andrew singing the song the whole way through as we wanted to make the most of what we could of the place we were filming on. We did around 6 or 7 takes of Andrew singing the song the whole way through above is one where Andrew is performing with the band. The idea here was to use as many different creative shots we could and the high angle of both the band and Andrew are great as it shows everyone in the shot when they are in the right positions and it also helps Andrew perform better upwards towards the camera. It also helps provide towards the actual lyrics where the singer has been kicked out of his house and is sad about everything that has happened so everything is weighing down on him.

Peer Feedback

Here is the feedback from the peer review we did of everyone's music videos. We received some critical information on how we need to improve our music video. This really helped us as we already knew we was not happy with our product during its first draft and this highlighted exactly what problems we had from a different perspective. This helped us to pick out exactly what we needed to do to make this music video much better. From this we went and gained some more band shots and cut down our narrative of the music video as well as re-shooting shaky shots and solving some problems with performers and people who couldn't act or film at the time.

Train Station Shots

On the fourth day of our filming sessions we went to the local train station as this is where the singer and the band member have gone too as they need to catch a train to get to where they want to go, but unfortunately they missed it but this is where the next character/band member turns up and greets the both of them and takes the jacket from Andrew's box that Liam is holding to symbolize that we are his friends and we will carry the weight of his problems too to support him. This is seen shortly after this photograph was taken.

Unfortunately the camera died near the end of our filming session and we had to stop and upload what we could to the computer, but we have these images as reference to where the characters were standing and the type of shots we wanted and have used for when we go back and film there we can get it right the same way. This shot was a great shot for the end of the artists bad luck run when he has met up with his two band mates and they are carrying his stuff with him to support him and it is as if they are taking on his woes and stress.

The Park Scene

Artist is sad about the events of the day

On this day of filming we went to one of our locations which was Morden Hall Park, this is where we shot the scene where the singer goes to the park and remembers a memory with the girl who has just thrown him out. This is where he is seen to be very down and lonely until his band mate comes along to cheer him up and walks off with him to move on to the next scene!

Here is a photograph of where the artist meets up unexpectedly with his fellow band member and after this shot we see them hug and there is a feeling of happiness. We decided to film this in first person in the artists point of view.

Here are a few pieces of footage in different forms from our shoot that we did on 05/11/13. We was able to get all footage up until the singing happens in the music. We have completed the start of the music video which is the start of the narrative.

Talent Release Forms

These are the talent release forms for everyone who is involved in the music video. It is all filled out and signed so every person involved is legally bound to follow the schedule through to when they are no longer needed. These are put in place so that the person who is involved has to stay involved and cannot back out, if they do we have the documents to show they agreed to it and that they cannot back out. They are also useful as it has all the participants contact information so we can contact them if needs be.

Location Permissions letter

 

Here is a letter which is to be sent to any locations managers for the locations we are trying to film on to gain their permission to film there and if they decide to change their mind about us we have it in writing that they had agreed to let us film there for the specific dates and times listed.

Draft Advertisments

 

Here are three drafts advertisements we had come up with for our bands album. My one is the black and white advertisement with the man in the suit wearing the monkey mask. I like elements from all of the advertisements. With the drawn one i like the idea of the three band members with the warped text of the album name and the monkey face logo. The monkey wearing the suit I like because it is a memorable idea and people will remember it. I like mine for the rock feel to it, as it seems quite artsy and uses a font to reflect the rock of the band.

Costume and prop ideas

Here is a mock up of the things that i would be wearing and some of the props that would be used in the music video. Some of these things will be used by the band as a whole like the musical instruments. Some other things will be a recurring item through the music video like the boxes and the vase and picture frame will be used in the slow motion shot of things that will fly through the frame which would relate to the relationship and the breaking up.

cd ideas

Here is the CD cover ideas that each of our group has made up and we are going to build off of these ideas we have come up with individually. From this we can make one final CD cover that suits our group and will fit well with the type of image that we all want to give off about the band. There is also our shooting schedule which has all dates we will be filming on, who has to be there and what props and equipment we need to have there on the days. With this we can keep very organized and have it all completed in the right time.

Here is a video animation of our storyboard with the song that we have chosen to further visualize what we want to have for our music video. We have tried to sync up the shots to the beat as well as to try and visualize some of the types of editing we want to use.

St. Helier Train Station Location Scout

The pictures above are of St. Helier train station which is one of our locations for one of the strains of our narrative for the music video. This is where the characters luck gets even more worse because he misses his train because he drops one of his boxes down the stairs and has to retrieve the things from it and within that time the train has gone and he is even more upset and worse off!

The Concept

Here are some notes that we made about our concept which help us come up with the concept in total. Our concept is the idea of a narrative of a break up between two people and the rough patches they go through during this break up. We related this through the lyrics that we annotated of the song which sounds like there is a break up. We are going with an amplification approach to the music video as its the way we had analyzed the lyrics which gave us the best results for an idea that we want to do. The concept goes through a break up scenario where the man is thrown out of his house with his things and he is walking around with nowhere to go with all his baggage symbolism the baggage of the relationship and this goes on until his band steps in and helps him by taking on his baggage and working at his problems together as real friends.

Image Annotation

Here is an image of British rock band Muse. From this image you can clearly see the style of the band and the kind of look they want to give off about their band. The look i can see is a smart-casual type of look where they are wearing quite smart blazers with casual t-shirts underneath. Their hair is not wacky and out there it is quite normal of what we see of most bands today with two of the band members having relatively long hair and the bassist on the left being of the much shorter hair variety. This gives off that the band itself is quite chilled but intelligently thought out music. from this you can also see that the band members are quite serious but the band member on the left is giving a smile suggesting a more relaxed feel to the band, this could show that they are friendly and are all friends with each other or that they love the music that they play and are happily passionate about the things they do as a band together. Over all this is the type of style i think that we would undertake in our music video as we are making a music video for the same genre of music and Muse are very big and have a huge fan following of their music and style.

Lyric Annotation

Here are the lyrics for our chosen song Learnt my Lesson Well by the Kaiser Chiefs. We have taken an amplification approach towards these lyrics by thinking of the underlying meaning behind them and creating a narrative out of it for the lyrics meaning to be amplified by the narrative we put it to.

Song Choice

Our chosen song is "Learn My Lesson" Well by Kaiser Chiefs.

This song was chosen because we believe that it would be quite easy to learn the lyrics to the song for easy lip syncing. The instruments are heard quite easily and will be easy to mimic with instruments in the video. The music is conventional to the genre we want to do for our music video as its quite fast paced sounds very rocky with electric guitars and drums being played with a electric bass guitar.

The genre of this song is indie rock which is good because we wanted to do a rock type song.

The initial idea behind choosing this song is that it follows convention very well to what we want for a rock song. This means it will be easy for us to create a good music video that amplifies the lyrics meaning and put a possible narrative. we saw this in our lyrics annotation of the song.

The type of clothing that would be worn for this type of music video would be skinny jeans and a shirt or a full suit and sometimes even a blazer, skinny jeans a tie and shirt.

These are the roles that we have found that need to be filled by our group to be able to make this music video. We have particular roles like Director, Camera Man, Sound, Mise-en-Scene and Editor these roles are to do with the actual creation of the music video and these particular people are responsible for these things so it is up to them to make them right. The other roles are to do with the performance in the music like Guitarist, performer and Singer. I have taken the role of Camera Man, Editing and a Performer as well as Mise-En-Scene. With these roles i must help to film the footage and to help set up the shots to look good as well as perform in the shots that i am supposed to be in to
